Gregory B. Sadler: Introduction to Philosophy

In this lecture from my Spring 2013 Introduction to Philosophy class at Marist College, we begin to study Plato’s classic dialogue, the Meno. I discuss the main characters of the dialogue, and we look at some of the key features of Socrates’ method. Then we think a bit about what “virtue” means — and we look at Meno’s attempt to provide an adequate definition of “virtue,” then why those proposed definitions fail.

I bring philosophy into practice, making complex classic philosophical ideas accessible for a wide audience of professionals, students, and life-long learners. Think of me as your expert guide, ready to lead you through the mountain ranges, metropolises, and labyrinths of an entire library of philosophical works, and bring you back not only having learned, but with a rucksack full of treasures and tools.
